A key part of setting a good environment for my students is having a set plan for each and every day for students to follow. The more organized the classes are, the easier it is on them. If they know what is coming next, their won't be any surprises! Here is what I plan to do on a 7:30am-3:30pm day on the job over the course of a week. I did it on a third grade level in which I though it was important for them to read and write everyday to expand their language at the same time each day as well as math because it can be a difficult subject for children. Literacy is very important for a student's learning because it is related to so many other subjects. A student will be asked to write essays for Social Studies, comprehend readings and answer questions for Science, and so much more. Literacy might be the most important concept students may learn in elementary because of how much it relates to the other subjects. I made sure that students have a writing workshop every other day. to practice on their sentence fluency, organization, and utilizing context knowledge to write main ideas and supporting details, in which I would probably use graphic organizers such as anchor charts for this class. They will also have a reading workshop to practice fluency in reading, comprehension, and using contextual clues and active reading to answer reflective questions. Math is used in every day life, so students must have the strong knowledge of math facts and arithmetic to assist them through their daily lives. I also put a technology/computer workshop in my weekly schedule because of the new generation of students who are very tech savvy and might benefit in other classes with the knowledge to utilize technology such as iPads and tablets to assist them in other classes. The 3:00pm-3:30pm slot is usually when the students leave, and it will be my most exciting time of the day.
