The quote to the left is a very common inspirational saying used in sports, but I would like to apply this saying to the classroom. I would probably apply this quote during the first week of classes by blindfolding the students and ask them how much they appreciated being able to see everything around them and how bad they would like to see again. In the story behind this quote, a mentor of an athlete put the athlete's head under water and took him out right before the athlete drowned and asked the athlete how did it feel to be fighting for air and how badly he wanted to breathe and the same way should be applied for his success. The students should want to be academically succeed as much as they want to see after the activity. Being a motivational coach is one of the many hats a teacher wears as a professional, and after teachers motivate their students to academically succeed, their expectations of classwork should also be held to higher standards because it will only benefit the students in the classroom. A teacher can express his/her standards by giving feedback, interacting with the students, and even putting them into group and have them conduct performance based assessments for given units in a variety of subjects.
