We all know that an elementary class can become a little crazy at times, but there are many activities teachers can do to restore the order in the classroom. When I was in elementary school, some of my teachers would just stay quiet and wait for everybody to stop talking. I promise you that this strategy does not work because I know my elementary class would keep the teacher waiting all day. Some teachers would just yell and try to intimidate students, and this strategy makes them dislike the teacher and not want to learn. My favorite strategy, which is pictured above, is using claps as a way to restore order. Claps offer a fun activity for students to do as they hear the rhythm the teacher makes and mirrors the same rhythm. It is sort of like a game of "Simon Says". After the teacher gains the attention of the students, she will be able to continue with her lesson. She does not need to make the students feel guilty for interacting with each other because like I said earlier, it is the best way to learn. She does not need to scare the students because it will just make the students dislike her. All she has to do is a quick and fun activity to make the students be on task again.
